    IIRD has been working incessantly towards the amelioration of society and taking one step further towards this endeavor, under Mission RIEV IIRD has successfully started the soil testing facility in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Many farmers have been already benefited from the service.

    A soil test helps in controlling the cost of production and increases farmer’s income and help in retaining the right measures of essential nutrients and retain fertility. Our soil tests check on 14 parameters including pH, E.C, N.P.K, and other micronutrients and our experts recommend customized solutions to individual soil samples based on the report thus help in maintaining soil health.

    The importance of soil testing:

  1. As we all know that soil should be fertile for growing healthy crops. For this reason, one should be aware of the properties of the soil like chemical, physical and biological along with nutrient, micronutrient content, and PH level of the soil.

  2. Applying the right quantity of fertilizers to a farmer will not only improve efficiency but also increase overall farm productivity.
  3. The soil the report helps the farmer to avoid using excessive fertilizers thus minimizing waste of resources and money.
  4. By soil test and based on our recommendation farmers are able to avoid the excess or less application of fertilizers. Both excess and less use of fertilizers are harmful to the soil which may lead to over or under fertilization of the soil.
  5. Soil degradation is a threat to every farmer. It is estimated that each year 24 a billion tonnes of fertile soil are lost due to erosion which is a result of unbalanced soil management. Proper soil investigation is guaranteed by soil tests followed by the application of the right fertilizers at the right moment. Besides avoiding the risks of soil degradation, it is a more efficient and financially more interesting practice. Moreover, soil restoration is a difficult, costly, and time-consuming process.
